Volunteers
We value our volunteers so much and cannot accomplish what we do without them! Volunteer opportunities through United Way include the following:

Allocation Volunteers:
Volunteers are needed to help choose the programs that will be funded by United Way. Allocations typically take place in the spring and we hold meetings in Pelican Rapids, Perham, Battle Lake, New York Mollsand Fergus Falls. The volunteers attend a training session and receive the applications to review. Within a week or two, the programs sit in front of the allocation panel and present their program to the volunteers. Questions and clarification follow the presentations and preliminary decisions as to the funding are then made. The recommendations go to the Allocations Committee of the United Way Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity to have a say in where your contributions will help the most.

Day of Caring Volunteers:
The Day of Caring event involves community members working together for the betterment of the community. Non-profit organizations, senior citizen homes, city parks and other entities give us projects they could use a little help with. Community volunteers come together and help to get the job done. Painting, raking, leaf raking and trash clean-up are common jobs we help. By volunteering with the Day of Caring, we are working to make the community a better place for all of us!

Business Blitz Volunteers:
Volunteers are needed to help drop off packets and then pick them up about a week later to help with our door to door business campaign. Time involvement is usually quite limited with about 2 - 3 hours needed to complete the business blitz. Business blitz activities take place in Battle Lake, Pelican Rapids, Perham, New York Mills and Fergus Falls. The media is usually involved in this venture and helps with letting people know we are out there that day for United Way.

Campaign Preparation Volunteers:
Summertime is a busy time for campaign preparation. We have thousands of envelopes to be stuffed, labels to be put on envelopes and letters to be mailed. With a staff of two, we need community volunteers to help us get it all done. Preparations usually begin in late July and run through August.

Employee Campaign Chair Volunteers:
When we run workplace campaigns, we have found they are more successful when there is someone at the business to help us coordinate their employees.  Employee campaign coordinators help coordinate special events, collect employee donations and stay in contact with United Way.  Employee Giving Campaigns are much more fun and successful with the right person coordinating!
