What is Prescription for Reading?

The Prescription for Reading program promotes early literacy and school readiness by making books and early literacy a standard part of pediatric primary care. We believe that every healthy childhood should include books and reading, and we believe that pediatric healthcare providers have a unique opportunity to deliver that message to families.

Women United of Otter Tail & Wadena Counties is proud to be a partner with our local doctors who provide child wellness visits from birth to age 5, in this venture.  The Sanford Health locations in Parkers Prairie and Pelican Rapids and Perham Health locations in Perham, New York Mills & Ottertail and Astera Health locations in Henning, Wadena and Ottertail and Lake Region Health Care facility locations in Fergus Falls and Battle Lake have now implemented the “Prescription for Reading” program.

How is this funded?

Prescription for Reading is funded through grants and private donations. In 2021, a grant through West Central Initiative was received.
